The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has banned clubs from using the Moshood Abiola National Stadium for any domestic competition.
The decision came after Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro complained about the poor state of the playing surface following Sunday’s training session.
The Super Eagles also did not train on the pitch on Monday to allow groundsmen to put it in proper shape before Thursday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Leone Stars of Sierra.

According to a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga, the stadium will only be used for games involving the national teams.
“In order to keep the main pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in good enough shape for use for international matches of the national teams, the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare has directed that the stadium be closed to usage by club sides for any domestic competition.
“The Stadium will henceforth be used only for matches involving the national teams. This directive takes immediate effect,” the statement said.
With the development, Nigeria Professional Football League club, Kano Pillars will have to look for a new stadium for their home games.
The Sai Masu Gida were banished to Abuja by the League Management Company following crowd trouble in their home clash against Katsina United.
