In a move aimed at fostering educational development and supporting school children, popular socio-cultural group, Common Men Assembly (CMA), has launched its Back-to-School campaign across selected schools in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State.

The initiative, spearheaded by the CMA Chairman, Jude Angodideke, seeks to address the challenges faced by pupils in the riverine community by providing essential learning materials and promoting the value of education.

As part of the outreach, the CMA team visited five schools: Burutu Primary School, Taraebe Primary School, Ofou Primary School, Forcados Primary School,Forcados Secondary School.

These institutions were identified as critical points for intervention, given their importance in shaping the future of young children in Burutu and Forcados.

Before commencing the school tours, the CMA delegation made a courtesy visit to Chief Julius Takeme, the Chairman of Burutu Local Government Council, and Mr. Binebai, the Chairman of Burutu Community.

During the meeting, the CMA leadership briefed the council on the objectives of their initiative and secured the necessary support for a smooth execution of the outreach.

In his remarks, Chief Takeme commended the Common Men Assembly for their commitment to supporting education in the region.

“Education is the foundation of any meaningful development, and I applaud this group for identifying this need and stepping in to make a difference. I believe this initiative will have a lasting impact on the children and the community at large,” said the council chairman.

During the school visits, two thousand (2000) notebooks were distributed to the impacted schools.

In addition to the supplies, the group engaged the pupils with motivational talks, encouraging them to focus on their studies and see education as the key to unlocking future opportunities.

The volunteers also interacted with teachers and school administrators to understand other challenges facing the schools and discuss potential areas for further collaboration.

Okunbiri Stella, Headmistress of Burutu Primary School, expressed her appreciation for the initiative, noting the positive impact it would have on her pupils.

“This outreach could not have come at a better time. Many of our students lack basic school supplies, and this kind gesture will go a long way in easing the burden on parents. We are truly grateful to CMA for their thoughtfulness and dedication to education,” she said.

The campaign also brought some much-needed attention to infrastructural deficits in some of the schools, with community members calling for further government and private sector interventions to improve learning conditions.

In his speech to the students, Jude Angodideke, the leader of CMA, stressed the importance of education, urging the children to take their studies seriously.

“No matter the challenges you face, always remember that education is the path to a brighter future. We are here to support you, and we believe you can achieve great things,” he said.

The Back-to-School initiative by CMA reflects a growing awareness of the educational needs in riverine communities, where access to quality education is often hampered by geographical and economic challenges.

With this intervention, the group aims to create a ripple effect, encouraging other organizations and stakeholders to contribute to the development of education in underserved areas like Burutu.

The successful execution of this initiative marks a significant step in CMA’s broader agenda of community development, social welfare, and youth empowerment across Delta State and beyond.
