Court Jails Lawmaker For Lying Under Oath

A member of the House of Representatives, Victor Mela, has been sentenced by an Abuja Magistrates’ court to prison for committing perjury and lying on oath in the INEC form he filled during his election.

The lawmaker representing Billiri/Balanga Federal Constituency of Gombe state, claimed to not have dual citizenship while possessing a British passport which shows he is a citizen of Britain.

He was however granted an option of fine.

Born 1973, Mela earned a Geology degree from the University of Jos in 1999 and proceeded for a Master’s Degree in Sedimenotology and Petroleum Geology from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in 2006.

Mela was elected a member of the House of Representatives in 2019. He is currently the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals.
