The long awaited elections into the 994 local government council areas of Cross River has been finally concluded successfully.

The elections adjudged by many to be peaceful, free and fair, was conducted under strict observation of the protocols of COVID 19 as prescribed by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC.

Dr. Mike Ushie, the Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission, (CROSIEC) in a statement stressed the commissions resolve to observe the COVID-19 protocols during the conduct of the local government elections into the State.

He said, the commission will provide face masks, water, detergent/soap and hand sanitizers at all the 994 polling units in the 18 local government areas of the state.

The Daily Reporting Nigeria reporter who observed the Elections, reported that all the protocols were duly observed and strictly adhered to during the elections.

The CROSIEC ad-hoc Staff, security agents and everyone who had anything to do at the polling stations were found with their face mask and were caused to wash, sanitize their hands as well as the observation of social distance.

The Commissioner for Tourism, Mr Eric Anderson, in his comments observed that the Elections was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner through out the state.

He commended Cross Riverians who turned out for the exercise for their courage and peaceful Conduct during the elections.

In his comments, Chief Okon Etim a traditional ruler who spoke with our reporter, said the strict observation of the COVID-19 protocols by CROSIEC gave the people assurance and confidence to turn out en mass to exercise their franchise.

He commended the State governor, Sir Ben Ayade and the State Committe on COVID-19 on their efforts and hard work on keeping the State CoronaVirus free.

He added that if the entire country will ensure strict compliance of the NCDC prescribed COVID-19 protocols, we will soon see a flattening of the pandemic.

The election results are expected to start rolling in as from Monday June 2nd, 2020.
