Customs Officer Completes 35-Day Bike Ride From Nigeria to Belgium

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recognised the remarkable feat of Assistant Comptroller of Customs Akpevwe Ogboru, popularly known as Tracta 2, after she completed a 35-day motorcycle journey from Nigeria to Belgium.

Ogboru set off on August 1, 2025, covering approximately 10,265 kilometres and crossing ten countries across two continents. She arrived at the Nigerian Embassy in Brussels at exactly 12:47 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday, Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS National Public Relations Officer, explained that the expedition, titled “Ride for Women Inclusivity and Cross-Border Research,” aimed to promote gender inclusivity, empower the girl child, and encourage cultural exchange.

“Her extraordinary journey marks a bold demonstration of courage, resilience, and purposeful advocacy,” the Nigeria Customs Service said in the statement.

The Service described Ogboru’s accomplishment as a testament to strength and determination, particularly for Nigerian women breaking barriers in various fields. Her arrival at the embassy was met with jubilation, reflecting national pride and admiration for her resilience.

Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR commended her unprecedented effort, stating:
“Assistant Comptroller Ogboru’s accomplishment stands as a beacon of inspiration to Customs officers, Nigerians, and the global community. With determination and vision, boundaries can indeed be transcended.”

Ogboru’s journey not only promoted inclusivity and research but also helped strengthen international relations and showcased Nigeria positively on the global stage.

As she continues her return trip to Nigeria, the NCS reaffirmed its support for initiatives that “promote resilience, innovation, and inclusivity,” encouraging more Nigerians to undertake bold, nation-building endeavours.

Fire Guts Residential Building in Oyo

A residential building in Oyo town, Oyo State, was gutted by fire on Thursday morning.

The building, located at Olugbile House in the Iyalamu area, caught fire around 5:00 a.m., destroying household items and properties worth millions of naira. Thankfully, no lives were lost in the incident.
