Veteran Nigerian singer John Odafe Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey, recently shared how he discovered his musical talent while working in a motor park.

Speaking on ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, the ‘Ghetto Soldier’ artist addressed the ongoing debate about younger musicians acknowledging the contributions of music legends to their careers.

Daddy Showkey stated that he isn’t interested in seeking recognition for paving the way for upcoming artists. Instead, he believes it’s up to those who have benefited from his legacy to acknowledge it.

“I was working in the motor park as a ticketer when someone told me I have a good voice and that I should consider becoming a musician,” he recalled.

“At first, I was sceptical because I didn’t know how to sing but when I attempted it, I discovered that everyone liked it so that was how I became a musician.”
