Nigerian singer Darkoo recently shared insights into her close relationship with fellow artist Ayra Starr. Speaking on the Uncut Podcast, Darkoo emphasized that her bond with Ayra Starr goes beyond the usual industry connections, describing her as more of a sister than just a friend from the music world.

“I have some friends in the industry, but I’m not really looking for more. What I found in Ayra Starr is different—she’s not just an industry friend, she’s like a sister to me,” Darkoo explained.

She went on to describe how their friendship works so well because of their similarities and mutual respect. “We get along so well because we’re a lot alike, but what I really admire about her is her respectfulness. You can just tell she’s a true Naija girl by the way she views life. We learn a lot from each other, and that’s the kind of relationship I really value.”

When it comes to other industry connections, Darkoo made it clear that while she’s friendly with many people, those relationships often don’t go beyond casual interactions. “I’m a friendly person, so it’s easy to make acquaintances, but it usually doesn’t go further than seeing each other or DMing. I think distant friendships work best for me because when people get too close, they can start to take you for granted and disrespect you,” she added.
