  • Aregbesola vows to build ideology-driven political platform

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed former Senate President, David Mark, as its interim National Chairman, and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as the interim National Secretary, in a political move aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential elections.

Also named was former Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, who now serves as interim National Publicity Secretary, signalling a major opposition realignment as the ADC seeks to become a credible alternative force in the national political landscape.

The announcement was made during a crucial party leadership meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, where members of the ADC National Working Committee (NWC) ratified the appointments.

In his acceptance speech, Aregbesola criticised the ideological emptiness of existing major political parties, including the APC, describing them as “empty shells” driven by personal ambition and not national policy or development goals.

“Our political landscape is plagued by parties that lack ideological depth. They are empty shells merging and splitting, not over policy or principle, but over power and personality,” Aregbesola said.

He pledged to transform ADC into a people-focused, policy-driven party grounded in democratic values, rule of law, social justice, and national development.

That speaks of security and supports real policies to keep our communities safe. That stands for Nigeria not just during elections, but in everyday governance,” he added.

According to him, the ADC under the new leadership will study global political systems and apply best practices suited to Nigeria’s local realities, pledging a future defined by “discipline, order, clarity of purpose, and service to the people.”
