The Delta Ijaw Comrade Community, DICC, has officially declared its support for an Ijaw man to become Governor of Delta State in 2023.The decision to support Ijaw Governorship candidate was collectively taken at the first general meeting called by Amb. Comrade Princewill Yerin Binebai-led executive in Warri on July 2, 2021.
Niger Delta Peace Ambassador and National Spokesperson of DICC, Peresine Watchman, communicated the group’s unanimous decision at the meeting to support Ijaw Governorship candidate in 2023, to newsmen.
Peresine stated that the need to support an Ijaw man for Delta State Governor has become sacrosanct and unnegotiable because an Ijaw man has not become Governor of Delta State since its creation in August 27, 1991, despite the fact that Delta Ijaws have been given massive supports to other ethnic groups to produce Governors.

The statement reads in part: “Delta Ijaw Comrade Community in its general meeting called by Amb. Princewill Yerin Binebai-led executive on July 2, 2021, looked critically into the issue of Delta Ijaws to produce the Governor of Delta State in 2023, and we unanimously agreed to only work for and work with an Ijaw candidate from any political party that listens to the collective interest of Delta Ijaws to produce the next Governor.
“DICC will soon meet with Comrade Communities in other ethnic groups to lobby them to see reasons with us to support an Ijaw man for Governor in 2023 because politics is all about lobbying.
“We are also using this medium to passionately appeal to all political parties to fill Delta Ijaws as their candidates for the 2023 Governorship elections in Delta State”, they stated.
