Delta 2023: INC, IYC Meet Ijaw Governorship Aspirants, Reiterate Commitment

The leadership of the Ijaw National Congress, the apex socio-cultural organisation of the Ijaw Nation, and its counterpart youth group, Ijaw Youth Council have reiterated their commitment towards ensuring an Ijaw son becomes the governor of Delta State after the tenure of Senator Dr Ifanyi Okowa.

This was the position as the leadership of the INC and IYC met with Delta governorship aspirants from Ijaw extraction of the state, together with other critical stakeholders at the Royal Palace in Patani, on Sunday.

President of the INC, Professor Benjamin Okaba in his address, said Ijaws were committed to the Delta Ijaw Governor 2023 project, and would never trade it for anything.

Okaba stressed that the INC will continue to give the needed support to all sons in the Delta governorship race.

He also buttressed that it was the turn of Ijaws to produce the governor in the state, and as such, called on all Ijaws in the state to channel their energies and the required strength to the Ijaw Governorship project.

Okaba berated the efforts of unethical elements who not only openly work against the interest of the Ijaw Nation and but issue unholy statements in the name of Ijaws in the State.

The President of the INC also advised the aspirants to consider coming out with a sole candidate, hinting that Ijaws will think in that direction when the time was right.

On their part, the aspirants commended the INC, IYC and other groups for the high level of support given to them.

They assured that their ambition was to improve on the developmental strives of the incumbent Governor, Senator Dr Infanyi Okowa and for the betterment of the state and the Ijaw people, expressing dedication to the course till the end.

The aspirants expressed their capacity and strength to be in the context of a logical conclusion and expressed that they are hopeful by the grace of God.

They also called on their tribesmen in the state to continue to show and give them the needed support, saying Ijaws are primed to take the governorship seat.

The meeting which was presided over by the INC President Prof Benjamin Okaba had in attendance, Senator James Manager, Hon. Dr Braduce Angozi and Hon Preyor Oboro.

Others are Barrister Newword Safugha, the INC Publicity Secretary, Engr Ezonebi, Oyakemeagbegha, the INC Western Zone Secretary, Barrister Sam Ikporikpo, IYC Parliament Speaker, Bob Collins Igetei, IYC Women Leader, Tina Tobusi, Western Zone Chairman, Dr Doubra Collins Okotete amongst others.
