Foremost Ijaw pressure group, Meinbutus, has described the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori as friend of the Ijaws.
Meinbutus founder, Ebis Moni said this when members of the Delta Ijaw Youths in Politics paid the group a consultative visit on behalf of Oborevwori.
Daily Report Nigeria recalls that the Delta Ijaw Youths had backed the unveiling and adoption of Oborevwori as sole governorship candidate for the 2023 election by Ijaw leaders back in December 2022.

The group also declared that its mandate is to carry out the declaration of the elders to the latter.
Intimating Meinbutus of its mandate, the group’s spokesperson, Comrade Augustine Okporu said the resolution of the elders is what the youths are running with for 2023.
Okporu, who described Meinbutus as the foundation of every struggle embarked on by the Ijaws, said the Sheriff Oborevwori mandate is a project the group should be part of.
Commending the group of their efforts in the past, Okporu said;
“There is nothing the Ijaw nation is doing today that does not have its root to your struggle. Meinbutus is the foundation of every struggle we have known.
“Your struggles laid the foundation of our demands for emancipation and has yielded fruits that is enjoyed by the whole Niger Delta.
“However, even this is a project Meinbutus should be part of. Ijaw youths cannot make a position in Delta State without your involvement. We ask for your blessings and support.”
Responding, Ebis Moni said the Delta State Assembly speaker was not a stranger to Meinbutus and Ijaws in general.
Moni said the nine communities under the watch of the group will take appropriate action towards ensuring victory for Oborevwori.
Moni said;
“Sheriff Oborevwori is not a stranger to us. He has been with us for long. We know him very well. However, I’m elated by your mission.
“There are 9 communities in Meinbutus with a total of over 9000 registered voters. Today, you have come on behalf of the candidate. We have heard your message. It is a good message and we will work accordingly.”
Another leader of the group, Lawrence Akpeti, amplified Moni’s comments, adding that Oborevwori was a project the group would not have played a blind eye to.
He said;
“Sheriff is our movement and even if you had not come ahead today, we would have given our support to him.
“We have worked all governorship candidates from 1999 till date. Some have failed us in the past. But, Sheriff is our project. He’s not new to us and we are not strangers to him. On that note, you have our blessings.”
