Delta Assembly Approves N1.73 Trillion Budget for 2026 Fiscal Year

The Delta State House of Assembly on Monday approved the 2026 State Appropriations Bill, setting the fiscal budget at ₦1,729,881,208,779—an increase of ₦65.6 billion from the ₦1.664 trillion initially presented by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The budget allocates ₦500 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦1.23 trillion for capital projects, signaling a strong focus on development and infrastructure.

The bill’s third reading and passage followed the presentation of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriations report by its chairman, Hon. Marylin Okowa-Daramola, at a plenary session presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor. The motion for passage was moved by the House Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, seconded by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, and adopted unanimously.

Speaking after the approval, Speaker Guwor described the passage as a landmark achievement and a testament to collaboration between the Legislature and Executive. He highlighted that the budget, themed “Budget of Accelerating the MORE Agenda,” is people-centered and sustainable, providing the framework for Governor Oborevwori to implement key policies and programmes in 2026.

Guwor further commended the Governor for his vision for the state and the Assembly members for their dedication and professionalism, noting that the approved budget is robust, forward-looking, and aimed at inclusive development across Delta State.
