The Delta Steel Company (DSC) is situated in Ovwian-Aladja Communities in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Delta Steel Company and that of Ajaokuta Steel Company were both founded in 1979. Other authorities may pin the establishment date on 1980.

Delta Youths Demand Lasting Peace Over Land Disputes From Okowa

The scanty industrial boom in Nigeria gave birth to the establishment to this company sited in different states in Nigeria. Industrial advancement in Nigeria is a capital failure because the purpose and aim to developmentally thread like America, China, Germany, and a host of others are defeated.

Industrial Revolution in Nigeria is near no success. It is an obvious demonstration by government to abandon the Delta Steel Company (DSC).

Bad politicking, mismanagement, and lack of interest from government are some primary reasons that have propelled the non-functionality of the company.

Nigeria’s dependence on importation of steel products would have been reduced drastically if these companies were working. They produce brakes drums, engine blocks, and other accessories.

Nigeria now annually spends #887 billion ( approximately about $4.5 billion) to import 25 million tons of steel and aluminium products.

It’s quite unfortunate that the Delta Steel Company collapsed in 2000, 20 years down the drain and no government seems to care about this economic mishap to the government and the people.

The economic boom once smiled on the employed and the society at large, businesses were profitably impacted by the presence of this company but greeted by its melancholy looks today as thousands of people were thrown back to the streets; the economic woes caused depression and many have died since the fiasco by government to reinstate the functionality of this company.

Though, the company was later sold to Premium Steel and Mines Limited under the Federal Government’s Privatisation Programme. The problem isn’t the name but the politicking and the lakadastical attitude of the government.

The Executive Governor of Delta State, HE, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa in one of his electioneering campaigns promised to revamp this company in collaboration with the federal government but slipping through even his second term in office is yet to make a statement about this once economic- impacting steel company.

I wish to passionately appeal to the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege and other great and well-meaning Nigerians of Urhobo Extraction make the” DSC Revival Project” their duty.

Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa should fulfill his campaign of “Prosperity For All Deltans” promised to revamp Delta Steel Company in conjunction with the federal government might.

Till this very moment, after twenty years of government’s negligence towards the precarious situation, most discarded by this problem remain unemployed and no livelihood.

While many still hope for the rebirth of the steel industry government should do something whether little to alleviate the sufferings of all staff of the company.
