The lowest diesel prices were recorded in Ondo State at ₦1,318.40, Kogi at ₦1,360.00, and Anambra at ₦1,361.02.

At the regional level, residents in the North-Central zone, which includes the Federal Capital Territory, paid the highest average of ₦1,920.47 per litre in May.

The South-West zone had the lowest regional average price at ₦1,553.19, followed by the South-East at ₦1,632.33 and the South-South at ₦1,857.19. In the North-West, diesel averaged ₦1,769.28, while in the North-East it stood at ₦1,767.21.

In April 2025, the national average stood at ₦1,722.45 per litre, a 21.72 percent increase from ₦1,415.06 in April 2024. The same three states—Benue, Adamawa, and Plateau—topped the diesel price chart in April.

NBS data also showed that Nigeria’s headline inflation dropped to 22.97 percent in May 2025, down from 23.71 percent in April, indicating a gradual decline in overall price pressures.

Despite easing inflation, diesel prices remain high, placing additional burden on households, transporters, and manufacturers dependent on the product.
