  • Liverpool will continue paying Diogo Jota’s salary to his family until 2027 after his tragic death.

  • The accident happened hours after Jota celebrated his wedding.

  • The club’s gesture reflects its strong bond with the late striker.

Liverpool will keep paying Diogo Jota’s family his weekly £140,000 salary, covering the rest of his £14.5 million deal, all the way through to 2027.

The 28-year-old Portuguese striker agreed to a five-year extension in 2022 and, since arriving at Liverpool in 2020, featured in 182 games, found the net 65 times and played a key role in winning last season’s Premier League.

Only a few hours before the accident, Diogo Jota took to Instagram to share his wedding joy with longtime partner Rute Cardoso, calling himself the “luckiest man in the world.”

Sadly, at about 12:30 am on Thursday near Zamora, Spain, the Lamborghini carrying Diogo Jota and his brother Andre had a tyre blowout, left the A-52, overturned and caught fire.

Regional emergency crews from Castilla y León rushed to the site but could only confirm that both brothers had died there.

Officials say several calls to the 1-1-2 emergency number alerted traffic police, fire units and medics, who declared both men dead on arrival.

Liverpool FC and the Portuguese Football Federation have both officially confirmed the brothers’ deaths and offered their deepest condolences.

In such dark times, acts of compassion and solidarity stand out, reminding us that every contract ultimately represents a human life.
