Governor Douye Diri is currently enjoying an early lead as results for the governorship election in Bayelsa trickle in.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the governor is in poll position to return for a second term if things continue on this path.

After Saturday’s elections, result seen by our correspondent showed that the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate is head and shoulders above his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Results collated from 131 random polling units across some local government areas showed that Diri has garnered 13, 396 votes, ahead of Sylva, who has 4,802 votes.

Meanwhile, a former President of the Ijaw Youths Council, Engr. Udengs Eradiri trails far behind in third place.

As of 11:03pm, the IReV portal indicated that in Bayelsa State, 85.29 per cent of the results had been uploaded, as 1,914 polling unit results had been uploaded out of the 2,242 total polling units.

Collation of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to resume on Sunday morning.
