Ewhrudjakpo reportedly collapsed in his office on Thursday and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Addressing the development, Governor Diri condemned what he described as unverified narratives and politicisation surrounding the incident, stressing the need for dignity and restraint.
“I have directed that an autopsy be carried out to reveal the true cause of his death. There is a lot of nonsense going on on social media,” Diri said.

The governor appealed to Bayelsans and the wider public to respect cultural values, noting that in Ijaw tradition, death should not be used as a political tool.
“Let nobody politicise the death of our dearly beloved deputy governor. If anyone truly loved him, this is the time to show it,” he added.
Diri further disclosed that the state government had declared three working days of mourning, urging citizens to honour Ewhrudjakpo’s legacy with unity and calm.
“Let us love one another to the point of death, because all of us will answer this call one day,” the governor said.
