The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru has announced an additional N10,000 to the salary of state workers.

Nwifuru made the announcement during the 2024 Workers’ Day celebration held at Pa Oruta Ngele Stadium in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The development marks the second time in less than a year that he has awarded such an increase to state workers.

In July 2023, just one month into his tenure, the Governor added N10,000 to the salary of state workers, stressing that he would prioritize their welfare.

During his address at the 2024 Workers’ Day celebration, the Governor reiterated his commitment to maintaining and deepening the existing friendly working environment and industrial harmony.

The above, according to him, would increase productivity among the workforce and improve good governance.

The additional N10,000 brings the total increase to N20,000, which Ebonyi workers have received under the Nwifuru-led administration in less than a year.

Meanwhile, Professor Egwu Ogugua, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), read an address pointing out some of the challenges faced by workers in the state.

Ogugua urged the government to engage more teachers in public primary and secondary schools, while thanking the Governor for his benevolence towards Ebonyi workers.
