Senator representating Borno South in the Senate, Ali Ndume has explained the reason behind the legislators’ decision to shun vehicles made in Nigeria.

DAILY REPORT NG gathered that each lawmaker in the National Assembly received N160 million for a Land Cruiser SUV.

Ndume, who is the Senate Chief Whip whille speaking when he appeared as a guest on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, said lawmakers did not go for cars made in Nigeria because cars are not manufactured in the country but assembled.

Ndume, who is the Senate Chief Whip, said that it is not a new thing for government workers to buy vehicles for official duties, adding that the vehicles are needed for the lawmakers.

According to him: “The reason why we did not choose Nigerian-made cars is because they don’t manufacture their vehicles, but they assemble them.

“I prefer Nigerian-made products, but the Nigerian car companies are only buying the vehicle parts and assembling them here.”
