Governor dismisses claims of stalled flyover project
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has approved a N150,000 Christmas bonus for all civil servants in the state ahead of the 2025 festive season.
The approval was announced on Sunday during a church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki and later confirmed in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

According to the statement, the bonus is part of the state government’s efforts to support workers despite a decline in revenue over the past year.

“Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has approved a N150,000 Christmas bonus for every civil servant in Ebonyi State,” Uzor said.
Speaking at the service, the governor said the gesture reflects his administration’s commitment to prioritising workers’ welfare under the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.
Nwifuru also addressed public concerns over the ongoing Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Flyover project, dismissing claims that construction work had stalled.
“You cannot find any state in Nigeria currently undertaking such a flyover,” the governor said, noting that the project is technically complex but will significantly improve the state’s outlook when completed.
He accused some social media commentators of spreading misleading information about the project, stressing that the flyover is part of the administration’s effort to leave a lasting legacy of modern infrastructure.
“We are doing it not because we have excess funds, but because we want to inscribe our name in history,” he added.
Recall that in August, the Ebonyi State Government approved a N20,000 increase in the minimum wage, raising civil servants’ salaries to N90,000, with immediate effect.
At the federal level, President Bola Tinubu signed the N70,000 national minimum wage law in July 2024 following its passage by the National Assembly. However, several states are yet to fully implement the revised wage structure.
