The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of six individuals over suspected involvement in internet-related fraud activities in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

This was made known in a statement issued on Saturday by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended by operatives from the EFCC’s Uyo Zonal Directorate during an intelligence-led operation.

“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Uyo Zonal Directorate, have arrested six suspected internet fraudsters at Ekamba and Ekpri Nsukara areas of Nwaniba, in Akwa Ibom State,” the statement reads in part.

Oyewale also disclosed that several items were recovered from the suspects during the arrest.

“The intelligence-driven arrest led to the recovery of the following items, eight mobile phones and two laptops,” he said.

He added that investigations into the matter are ongoing and the suspects will be prosecuted in court upon conclusion of the probe.

“The suspects will be charged to court soon,” the statement concluded.
