Emmanuel Petit: Why Arsenal Could Lose Premier League Title

Emmanuel Petit

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has highlighted a key reason why he believes Mikel Arteta’s team might not win the Premier League this season.

Despite finishing second last season and currently sitting in second place behind Manchester City, Petit argues that Arsenal’s lack of squad depth could be their undoing.

Emmanuel Petit points out that while Manchester City managed to win the title last season despite starting poorly and missing key players, Arsenal may struggle to achieve the same success.

He expressed concern about Arsenal’s ability to rotate their squad effectively, especially with the added demands of the UEFA Champions League, which involves more fixtures and international commitments.

Emmanuel Petit stresses that when key players get injured, Arsenal may not have adequate replacements with the same level of quality, potentially impacting their title hopes.

“City started poorly [last year], and they were missing big players during the season, but they won the title,” Petit told talkSPORT.

“I’m not sure that can be possible for Arsenal in terms of quality and quantity of players. That’s what I have been worried about for ages, the rotation of the team.

“Now they are back in the Champions League again. Playing every single three days, international duty as well with your country, that means you need to get rotation in your team.

“When you get important players injured, what is the solution for Arteta? He’s got players, but not in the same position and who cannot bring the same qualities on the pitch.”
