Ex-Minister Tells Tinubu to Remove Yakubu Mahmood as INEC Chairman
A former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has called for the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu.
Chidoka, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, made the call to President Bola Tinubu on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
He asked Tinubu to remove Yakubu just as he suspended the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

PDP’s Cheifthan argued that the INEC boss’ removal was important due to the debate caused by the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

He advised the President to set up a panel to investigate the electoral umpire’s boss.
He said:
“It would have been totally unimportant if he faced what I considered the critical issues about Nigerians making their choices. For the kind of uproar that the election caused, the way he went after the CBN governor is the way I think he should have set up a panel to look into INEC.”
On June 9, Tinubu suspended Emefiele over the allegation that the financial system was rotten under him.
He was subsequently arrested in Lagos and flown to Abuja, by the Department of State Services (DSS), where he was being interrogated.
