EXCLUSIVE: Hospitals Chase Out Patients Over NLC Nationwide Strike in Delta

Public hospitals in some parts of Delta State downed tools in compliance with the nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that patients old patients at the Central Hospital in Warri were advised to seek medical care in private hospitals or anywhere else.

Same was the case at the Ekpan General Hospital in Effurun as doctors and nurses refused attending to old patients.

New patients were rejected and not admitted for medical attention at the public health facilities.

NLC Nationwide Strike: Maritime Workers Shutdown Seaports

“I don’t know what happened. We were just discharged without notice and told to go to a private hospital. No proper explanation was given but I later heard it was because of the strike,” the source said with a shaky voice.

At the Ekpan General Hospital, old patients were left unattended to, while new ones waited for hours in vain at the admission desk without being attended to.

A woman who had a ailing son was seen seeking explanations to the situation at the top of her voice but was left with no explanations.

Meanwhile, public schools in Bayelsa were also shutdown in compliance with the two-day warning strike by the organized labour.

Recall that the NLC declared September 5 and 6 nationwide warning strike days in protest against an alleged failure by the Federal Government to proffer solutions to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on Nigerians.
