Falz Responds to VeryDarkMan Controversy, Legal Action Underway | Daily Report Nigeria

Nigerian rapper and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has responded to serious allegations made by social media personality VeryDarkMan, who claimed Falz and his father, Femi Falana, were involved in corrupt practices concerning the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This controversy erupted following a viral audio clip released by VeryDarkMan on September 24, 2024, which included assertions that Bobrisky had bribed officials to drop money laundering charges against him, implicating Falz and his father in the process.

In a recent interview on the Afrobeat podcast, Falz expressed his outrage over the accusations, stating, “One day, [VeryDarkMan] thought it wise to turn on his ring light and make direct statements alleging that myself and my dad connived with certain individuals to manipulate justice. These are horrible things to say with absolutely no proof.”

Following the allegations, Falz and his father initiated legal proceedings against VeryDarkMan. On October 14, 2024, a Lagos State High Court ruled that VeryDarkMan must remove all defamatory content related to Falz and his father from social media and cease making further defamatory statements.

Falz elaborated, “I have gone to court for defamation of character because that’s clearly what this is. The case is still ongoing, and the court has ordered him to take down the defamatory video.”

Despite the option for criminal charges, Falz opted against pursuing arrest for VeryDarkMan, stating, “He could very well have been arrested, but I chose not to go down that route. They’re trying to paint a narrative that my family and I are oppressors.”

While an apology was hinted at by VeryDarkMan, Falz dismissed it as insincere, noting, “He posted something on his Instagram story, but it wasn’t an apology. The defamatory video still exists on his page.”

As legal proceedings continue, Falz assured his followers that the truth will be revealed in court, concluding, “Since he really wants litigation, the rest of the explanation will be done in court.”
