Famine Hits Zamfara

Some parts of Zamfara State are under famine as bandits asked residents, particularly in the Kurar Mota area in Bungudu Local Government not to go anywhere close to their farmlands.

The gunmen also destroyed their farmlands and killed three villagers.

The incident took place on Monday, August 23, 2021, where 11 persons were abducted and 3 killed.

Farming and herding communities in Zamfara state have always been terrorized by gangs who raid villages, steal cattle and kidnap residents asking for ransom in return.

Some of the victims who are not so lucky get slain on their farmlands.

In 2019, the state government entered a peace agreement with the gunmen.

In 2020, about 15 brand new Hilux vehicles and cash gifts were given to leaders of different “repentant” gangs of bandits by the governor.

In spite of all these, the communities in the state have been under one form of attack or the other and in each case, residents are either killed or kidnapped.
