Speaking during a special broadcast on Sunday evening, the FCT minister stated that voters have become more discerning and are no longer moved by what he described as hypocritical campaign stunts.
According to him, the elections revealed politicians who parade themselves as champions of the masses by buying corn and groundnuts from roadside sellers solely for publicity.
“This election has shown that Nigerians now know the ruling party and the real opposition party,” Wike said.
He added:
“The election has further exposed the hypocrisy of people who go about buying corn and groundnuts from roadside sellers for the purpose of a campaign just to deceive Nigerians.”
Wike stressed that the results proved residents of the FCT could not be misled by what he termed “emergency democrats” who constantly criticise the government without offering solutions.
“Yesterday, the residents of the FCT demonstrated that they cannot be deceived by emergency democrats who have chosen not to see anything good in our country and its government,” he said.
The minister also commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting reforms to Nigeria’s electoral process, particularly the amendment of the Electoral Act, which he said contributed to the credibility of the polls.
The statement was signed by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, and released to the public following the broadcast.
