Ijaw National Congress Inaugurates National Representatives Council

The Ijaw National Congress, INC, on Wednesday inaugurated its National Representatives Council, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital.

The inauguration of the 8th parliament of the apex Ijaw body was presided over by the INC President, Prof. Benjamin Okaba.

Okaba, in his address charged the NRC to set its hand on the plough and start working without delay.

The revered sociologist, who presented a long list of achievements of his administration within its first year of leadership, buttressed that ensuring the unity of Ijaws was a paramount aspect of the parliament.

He charged the NRC to cooperate with the National Executive Council towards the collective progress of the over 40 million Ijaws across the globe.

“I want you to hit the ground running because we are already behind schedule. There’s a lot of the NEC cannot do unless the NRC is working with us.

“Therefore, I charge you to fully cooperate with us, in ensuring that Ijaws remain united and for us to accomplish all that we are set out to do,” Okaba said.

Following the inauguration of the NRC, the parliamentarians wasted no time in electing its leadership in line with the charge by President Okaba.

Dr. Prince Anyanate Kio from Eastern Zone emerged Leader of the NRC, Princess Adesola Ebiseni – was elected Deputy Leader, while Gabriel Pinasidor Benamaisia from Central Zone was elected Clerk.

In his inaugural speech, Dr. Kio echoed the commitment of the NRC to working in tandem with the National Executive Council to enable the INC achieve its set goals.

Prof. Okaba later presented the NEC budget of the fiscal year for the National Representatives Council to approve.
