FG Cracks Down On Kenya Airways Over Consumer Protection Infractions

  • The Nigerian government has initiated enforcement action against Kenya Airways for violating consumer protection laws.

  • The airline failed to apologize, refund, and compensate a Nigerian traveler, Gloria Omisore, within 48 hours, among other infractions.

  • The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is organizing a retreat for airlines operating in Nigeria to educate them on the country’s regulations.

The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has initiated maximum enforcement action against Kenya Airways for violating consumer protection laws.

The airline’s infractions include its refusal to tender an official apology, refund, and compensate a Nigerian traveler, Gloria Omisore, within 48 hours.

According to the Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at NCAA, Michael Achimugu, the airline requested an extension of one hour after 48 hours elapsed but failed to comply with the agency’s demand.

Achimugu disclosed this in a post on X on Saturday, adding that the airline also failed to send in a compliance report about a scheduled flight that was delayed for seven hours with no compensation for the passengers.

“When the airline was confronted over the phone, its team claimed ignorance of the NCAA Regulations, wondering how a company would operate in a foreign country with no recourse to the relevant laws.

“To this end, we are organising a retreat for all airlines operating in Nigeria to learn and relearn Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023,”Achimugu said.

FG Approves N758bn Bond to Clear Pension Liabilities

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given approval to the Debt Management Office to raise a N758 billion bond to clear the backlog of pension liabilities for all categories of pensioners.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the end of the council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
