FG Increases Salaries of Civil Servants, Pensioners

The Federal Government has announced a salary increase of 25 per cent to 35 per cent for civil servants on six Consolidated Salary Structures, effective January 1, 2024.

The decision comes ahead of the 2024 Workers’ Day celebration and was disclosed in a statement by Emmanuel Njoku, Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC).

According to Njoku, the six Consolidated Salary Structures include the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), and Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS).

Others were Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

Previously, employees in the tertiary education and health sectors had received salary increases under Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS).

Others included Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Also, pensioners on the defined benefits scheme will receive pension increases of 20 per cent to 28 per cent under the same six consolidated salary structures.

The move aims to recognize the contributions of civil servants and pensioners to the nation’s development.
