The Federal Government has released the comprehensive subject list for Junior and Senior Secondary Schools under Nigeria’s new education curriculum, which is to take effect from September 2025.
The disclosure was made by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Mr Dada Olusegun, who posted the full breakdown on his X handle on Wednesday.
In his words: “The new curriculum for Nigerian Schools which will commence from the next session in September 2025 has been released.”
The framework, officially unveiled by the Federal Government on Sunday, makes digital literacy, basic entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies central to students’ learning. Programming, artificial intelligence, and additional international languages now feature prominently at the Senior Secondary level.
Junior Secondary (JSS 1–3) subjects include:
Mathematics & Measurement: Numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, rates, geometry, algebra, statistics, graphs, and units of measurement.
English Language: Essay writing, advanced grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, and oral performance such as debates, speeches, and drama.
Integrated Science: Basic physics, chemistry, biology, ecology, earth science, and laboratory safety.
Digital Literacy & Coding: Microsoft Office tools, internet research, Python basics, Scratch programming, and introductory robotics.
Social Studies: Nigerian and African history, geography, civics, trade, money, and entrepreneurship foundations.
Languages: Advanced mother tongue and conversational fluency in French or Arabic.
Creative Arts: Drawing, painting, crafts, theatre, film basics, and music.
Physical & Health Education: Sports, nutrition, reproductive health, first aid, and drug abuse awareness.
Senior Secondary (SS 1–3) subjects include:
Mathematics & Advanced Applications: Algebra, trigonometry, calculus basics, probability, statistics, financial maths, and applied mathematics.
English & Communication: Academic writing, literary analysis, research skills, public speaking, journalism, and fact-checking.
Sciences: Physics (mechanics, waves, electricity, nuclear physics), chemistry (organic, inorganic, industrial, analytical), biology (genetics, biotechnology, ecology), and environmental science.
Technology & Innovation: Programming (Python, JavaScript, HTML/CSS), data science basics, artificial intelligence, robotics, digital entrepreneurship, and cybersecurity.
Social Sciences: Government and law, micro and macroeconomics, history, philosophy, ethics, and entrepreneurship.

Languages: Advanced mother tongue literature with fluency options in French, Arabic, or Chinese.
Creative Arts & Innovation: Fine arts, music, drama, and film/media production.

Research & Project Work: Final-year research project, data analysis, presentation, and oral defence.
