Education ministry assures safety, continuity of learning in unity colleges
The Federal Government has ordered the reopening of 47 Unity Colleges that were earlier closed across the country due to rising insecurity.
The directive was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, which said the decision followed a fresh assessment of the national security situation affecting schools.

According to the ministry, the reopening underscores the government’s commitment to protecting students while ensuring that academic activities are not unduly disrupted.
The unity schools were shut down in November as a precautionary measure after growing security threats to educational institutions, particularly boarding schools.
The closure was triggered by the abduction of more than 300 pupils from St. Mary Catholic School in Niger State, an incident that heightened nationwide concerns over the safety of students and staff.
At the time, authorities explained that the temporary shutdown would allow security agencies to reassess threats and strengthen protection around school environments.
The Federal Government said the latest decision to reopen the unity schools was taken after a review indicated that conditions had improved enough for students to safely return to their campuses.
The Ministry of Education reaffirmed that it would continue working closely with security agencies to monitor developments and ensure that learning environments remain safe across the country.
