Fintiri Wins Adamawa Governorship Election
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been declared winner of the Adamawa governorship election.
Fintiri was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday following its resumption of collation of results from Saturday’s supplementary poll.
According to results announced by INEC, Fintiru polled 430,821 votes to defeat Aisha Binani, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 396,788.
Daily Report Nigeria reported that the Adamawa governorship election was marred with infraction after the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa-Ari declared Binani winner of the poll under questionable circumstances.
INEC swiftly described the announcement by Hudu as lacking merit and a usurpation of the powers of the Returning Officer.
The Adamawa REC was subsequently suspended and recommended for prosecution prior to the resumption of collation of results on Tuesday.
Fintiri will now serve a second term as governor of Adamawa state following his declaration.
