Nigerian actress and content creator, Funke Akindele, sparked reactions on social media concerning her emergence as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s Deputy Governorship candidate in the 2023 Lagos State election.
Speaking on her nomination in a video shared on her Instagram page, Akindele expressed concern about the hardship amidst the low-class category, especially youths which triggered her strong passion to assist in governance.
According to Funke, accepting the PDP gubernatorial nomination is a huge personal sacrifice and has resolved that no sacrifice is too much for the actualisation of the urgent mission to rescue Lagosians.

She also noted her knowledge about the cost of the assignment on her vibrant career which would now be necessarily put on hold.
She said:
“I am not unaware of the cost of this assignment on my vibrant career which I must now necessarily put on hold. It is a huge personal sacrifice.
My resolve is that no sacrifice is too much for the actualization of the urgent mission to rescue our people and our dear state. It is a call that I take with reverence and the utmost sense of responsibility.”
