Gareth Southgate told to Drop Key Players Ahead of Euro last 16

Former Bayern Munich star Didi Hamann has suggested that England manager Gareth Southgate should consider benching either Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, or Phil Foden ahead of their Euro 2024 last-16 match against Slovakia on Sunday.

Hamann believes that Southgate could then introduce either Cole Palmer or Eberechi Eze into the starting lineup.

Speaking to RTE, Hamann said, “If these star players aren’t performing, there’s a valid argument for dropping them. Foden, Bellingham, and Kane could be considered. The main issue seems to be playing Foden and Bellingham together, which hasn’t been effective. However, Southgate has been hesitant to make any changes.”

“He should think about dropping one of them. This would allow Palmer, Gordon, or Eze to step in.”
