Gov Ikpeazu Signs Female Inheritance Bill into Law

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, on Wednesday, signed the bill which guaranteed the rights of females to inherit and own property in their father’s family.

The bill was passed some weeks ago by the state House of Assembly.

Ikpeazu who congratulated women over the bill which now has a law citation of ‘The Female Persons Right of Inheritance of Property Law 2022’, said his administration will always lean on the side of reason in the discharge of its obligations to the people of the state.

He noted that it had become anachronistic to continue to treat women as second-class citizens in their families.

He said,

“This is about the most important legislation passed by the state House of Assembly and congratulations to Abia women for this feat.

With the Female Persons Right of Inheritance of Property Law 2022, Abia has become one of the first states in the country to protect the rights of women to inheritance.
