The Federal Government has told the Academic Staff Union of Universities it will not pay for the salaries of months the union members did not go to work.

This is as the government reiterated its commitment to its ‘no work, no pay’ policy on Wednesday.

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who made the clarity on behalf of the government, said this while reacting to the planned one day protest by ASUU.

DAILY REPORT NIGERIA recalls that members of ASUU announced plans to embark on a one day protest for being paid half salaries for October.

Addressing State House correspondences after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja,
Adamu said the position of the government remains that the lecturers “would not be paid for work not done.”

On the allegation by ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke that paying lecturers on a pro-rata basis was a ploy to make them casual workers, Adamu said the government had no such plan.

“Nobody can make University lecturers casual workers,” he stressed.

When told that the lecturers were threatening a one-day action to protest over the half salaries, Adamu said he was not aware.
