Court of Arbitration for Sport on Saturday issued its decision in favor of the Issa Hayatou, declaring that there was “insufficient evidence” to support FIFA’s allegations of commercial malpractice.

Hayatou’s suspension was lifted on the eve of the Africa Cup of Nations final, which was to be held in his home country of Cameroon.

Last year, FIFA sanctioned him for his role in a contentious $1 billion TV and marketing rights deal with France’s Lagardere Sports.

The agreement, signed in 2015, granted Lagardere exclusive rights to CAF-run competitions for a period of 12 years, from 2017 to 2028.

Hayatou served as president of the Confederation of African Football for 29 years before being deposed in a 2017 election by Ahmad Ahmad.

He served as FIFA’s interim president for a brief period following Sepp Blatter’s suspension and before Gianni Infantino’s election in February 2016.

The agreement with Lagardere was terminated when his nearly three-decade tenure as Africa’s football administrator came to an end.
