A Nigerian lady has made history as she was winged by the leadership of Nigerian Air Force as the first female Combat Pilot Officer in the history of the force.

Flying Officer Kafayat Sanni was decorated alongside five others who recently completed their flying training in a decoration ceremony on Tuesday, September 29, in Abuja.

Daily Report Nigetia gathered that Officer Sanni was one amongst the 5 pilots NAF graduated in tactical and basic flying. The information was disclosed in a statement shared on the official social media handles of the force.

She received the Limited Combat Rating Certificate after completion of the Tactical Flying Course on the Alpha Jet aircraft along with another pilot. Others decorated include 4 student pilots of the Basic Flying Course 19 (Batch A).

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, while winging the pilots at the combined ceremony at NAF Headquarters, stated that the journey of the pilots had just begun.

He particularly expressed delight that Sanni, who was decorated with her pilot wings back in October 2019, had made history yet again.

Abubakar, the air force boss went on to note that the pilots have continued to add value to the efforts of the service while dealing with security challenges in the country.

According to him, Flying Officer Sanni and her colleagues are now better trained, prepared and well equipped to be deployed for combat missions in the ongoing counter-insurgency air operations in the North-East and other parts of the country.
