  • Senator Monday Okpebholo, has revealed that 18 Local Government Councils in the state received over N83 billion in federal allocations in one year.

  •  He lamented that despite the huge allocations, the councils have nothing to show for it.

  • The governor criticized the suspended Local Government Chairmen for allegedly removing N800 million monthly from council accounts.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has disclosed that the 18 Local Government Councils in the state received over N83 billion in federal allocations in one year.

According to the governor, the councils received over N6.5 billion monthly as allocations between January and September 2024, and over N8 billion monthly from October to December.

Governor Okpebholo expressed disappointment that despite the huge allocations, the councils have nothing to show for it.

He noted that other states are utilizing their resources well for the people.

The governor criticized the suspended Local Government Chairmen, saying, “The Chairmen had been in office for the past one year and they have nothing to show for it while other States are utilizing their resources well for the people.”

Governor Okpebholo further stated, “These Chairmen had the boldness to be removing N800 million monthly from Local Government accounts while our schools suffered without good classrooms, teachers and other infrastructure.”

He assured that his administration is set to correct the wrongs and ensure development gets to the grassroots.

Okpebholo Defends Suspension of Edo LG Chairmen, Alleges N12bn Remittance to PDP Leaders

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has defended the suspension of 18 elected local government chairmen by the State House of Assembly.

According to him, the suspension was necessitated when they refused to respond to a discovery that they remitted about N12 billion to some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 15 months.
