A retired army general, Halilu Akilu has claimed a former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida gave the country solid infrastructural development during his regime.
Akilu, a retired brigadier-general, was the director of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) during the regime of Babangida (1985-1993).

Speaking on Thursday at the ‘IBB Legacy Dialogue’ held in Abuja, Akilu mentioned the national assembly complex, the military barracks in Abuja and the state house as infrastructural development recorded during Babangida’s regime
“IBB laid solid infrastructural development for the nation during his regime. We have that of bringing the federal capital of the country back to Abuja. This was a great decision that only leaders of IBB’s capacity can do,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“The second is the building of military barracks in Abuja, the building of the national assembly complex, the Aso Rock villa (state house), the federal secretariat, as well as economic and social empowerment of Nigerians, especially women, with the establishment of the ‘Better Life for Rural Women’ as MAMSER [Mass Mobilisation for Self Reliance, Social Justice, and Economic Recovery].”
