The Iduwini National Body For Peace and Development has demanded a functional turbine from the Delta State Government for the supply of sufficient power to Burutu community.
In a letter dated May 8, 2024, and addressed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the body lamented the persistent absence of power from the headquarters of Nigeria’s economic powerhouse Local Government Areas.
The letter signed by Comrade Omole Loveday President, Iduwini National Body for Peace and Development, noted that economic life of Burutu was under severe threat as power remains a perpetual impediment since the formation of the Council in 1976.
The letter, which is a follow-up reminder on previous ones, also copied renowned Ijaw leader Pa Edwin Clark, as well as the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and the Ijaw National Congress (INC).

“Your Excellency and Esteemed Leaders,
“I write to you once more on behalf of the Iduwini National Body for Peace and Development concerning the pressing need for the installation of a functional turbine in Burutu Community.
“Burutu Community, the headquarters of Burutu local government, stands as evidence of the rich heritage and potential of our people.
“Established in 1976, and long been a beacon of hope and a hub of activity within Delta State and the nation at large. However, despite its historical significance and contributions to the state’s development, Burutu Community has continually suffered from neglect in crucial infrastructure, particularly in the provision of reliable electricity.
“Over the years, successive state governors and stakeholders have benefited from the resources and resilience of Burutu Community. Yet, the lack of a functional turbine has left its residents in perpetual darkness amidst her increasing population, impeding their economic progress and perpetuating cycles of poverty, Investors don’t find the environment conducive for business.
“On the 19th of April 2024 , a letter was dispatched to His Excellency Rt Hon Chief Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State, via his X handle beseeching his intervention in addressing this dire situation. Regrettably, our plea has thus far gone unanswered, leaving the hopes of the community unfulfilled and their aspirations dimmed.
“As esteemed leaders with a shared commitment to justice and the welfare of our people, we implore your collective influence and advocacy in amplifying our call for urgent action. The installation of a turbine in Burutu Community is not merely a matter of convenience but a fundamental necessity for the prosperity and well-being of its residents.
“This letter serves as both a reminder of our previous correspondence and a renewed plea for your immediate intervention. We beseech you to champion the cause of Burutu Community and prioritize their access to reliable electricity, thereby unlocking their potential and paving the way for a brighter future.
“The people of Burutu Community and the undersigned entities look to you for support and assistance, trusting in your undoubted commitment to justice and equity before the commencement of the new political dispensation. Together, let us ensure that no community is left behind in our collective pursuit of progress and prosperity.
