The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit seeking the disqualification of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the apex court disqualified the suit brought before it by Chief Ikie Aghwarianovwe for lacking merit.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the court held that Chief Ikie failed to prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt.
According to Justice Agim, “The mere fact that there were differentials in names does not amount to falsity.

“An error in the date of birth in a certificate not shown evidentially to emanate from the respondent cannot amount to falsity”.
Aside from dismissing the appeal, the court ordered Chief Ikie to pay N3 million each as the cost to the Peoples Democratic Party and Oborevwori.
Ikie, a gubernatorial aspirant that partook in the primary election of the PDP in October 2022 had dragged Oborevwori and the party to court.

Ikie in his suit alleged that the former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly submitted false documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission to aid his qualification for the 2019 House of Assembly election.
In the suit which was initially assigned to the Hon. Justice Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, but subsequently transferred to Asaba, Delta State, Chief Ikie also claimed that as a result of the alleged forged documents, Oborevwori was not qualified to contest the 2023 gubernatorial election.
