Although the number of incidents slightly dropped by 3.5 percent compared to January, fatalities rose sharply from 481 deaths recorded in January to 624 in February, representing nearly a 30 percent increase.

According to the report, the North-West recorded the highest number of attacks with 44 incidents, followed by the North-Central with 40 and the insurgency-affected North-East with 24 incidents.

Across the southern regions, 28 incidents were documented, including 11 each in the South-South and South-West and six in the South-East.

At the state level, Zamfara State recorded the highest number of incidents with 19, followed by Benue State with 15 and Borno State with 12.

In terms of fatalities, Kwara State recorded the highest death toll with 174 casualties linked to a mass-casualty attack early in the month. Zamfara State followed with 149 deaths, while Borno State and Kebbi State recorded 48 fatalities each.

Kidnappings also surged during the period, with 419 people abducted across 33 incidents in 13 states including Niger State, Kaduna State, Edo State, Ondo State and Akwa Ibom State.

The tracker revealed that attacks targeting civilians were the most prevalent form of violence, accounting for 86 incidents and 512 deaths. Other incidents included armed clashes, explosive attacks and riot-related violence.

One of the deadliest incidents occurred on February 3 when coordinated attacks led to 191 deaths in a single day, with the attack in Kwara State accounting for the largest share of casualties.

The report warned that the scale of violence has worsened humanitarian conditions in affected communities, leading to displacement, disruption of livelihoods and deepening trauma among residents.

Researchers noted that the persistent attacks highlight the urgent need for stronger civilian protection measures and improved responses to organised armed conflict across the country.
