The president of Nigeria, Muhammad Buhari has once again appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities to call off the ongoing strike, noting that it’s destroying the nation’s human capital.
Buhari made this appeal at a Special Convocation ceremony organized to confer an Honourary Degree of Doctor of Letters on Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi by the University of Maiduguri.

The president’s Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari represented Buhari at the occasion which was held on Friday, August 12, 2022.
He said;
”I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the ASUU to reconsider its stance to call off their 7 months old strike, as students and their parents are desirous to see that schools are reopened.
The nation cannot afford long interruption of higher education of the youths and wouldn’t undermine the development of the nation’s human capital in a strictly competitive world”.
“In this regard, I want to convey President Muhammadu Buhari’s call for ASUU to call off their strike and return to the classroom.”
Buhari added that his call for the end of the strike is to allow students to return to class, adding that his administration has done a good job in implementing an economic diversification plan, unlike past administrations that promised and failed to diversify since 1999.
