Nigerian singer Iyanya Mbuk has opened up about one of the most heartbreaking seasons of his life, revealing that he lost three close family members within a span of two years—a painful stretch he described as the “darkest period” he has ever endured.

In a soon-to-be-released episode of Hero Daniel’s podcast, the Kukere hitmaker got emotional as he recalled the tragic losses that occurred just as his music career was beginning to gain momentum.

Iyanya revealed that it all began with the death of his father, which happened shortly before he was set to be “recruited”—a moment believed to be tied to his rise through a music competition.

“The lowest point of my life, I would say, losing my family. I lost three people in about two years. My dad passed about seven or eight days to me being recruited,” he said.

Unfortunately, the heartbreak didn’t stop there. Iyanya added that after his father’s death, his brother also passed away not long after he emerged into the spotlight.

“Immediately I came out, and it was my brother who followed,” he continued. “I met my mom…”

The pain deepened when the singer spoke about how his mother died just as he was preparing for a performance. According to him, he had just finished performing when he got the devastating call from his uncle.

“The day my mom died, I had a show. I was backstage. I think like four minutes after my performance, my mom’s junior brother was calling me back to back,” Iyanya recounted.

“So I picked the call, he goes, your mom is dead.”

Reflecting on the emotional toll these losses took on him, the singer also commented on how love is often portrayed online today, subtly hinting at the contrast between public gestures and private realities.

“And we are also in this era where private love lacks verification. Because the norm is everybody showing off flowers, dates, kisses on social media,” he added.

Iyanya’s emotional revelation has struck a chord with fans, many of whom continue to praise him for his vulnerability and strength in the face of profound personal loss.

I Go Dye Blasts Politicians Over Pre-Election Stunts, Calls Their Tactics “Fake Humility”

Nigerian comedian and  critic Francis Agoda, better known as I Go Dye, has called out politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections, accusing them of recycling the same old tricks to deceive voters.

In a strongly-worded Instagram post, the veteran entertainer warned Nigerians not to fall for the sudden displays of humility often exhibited by political aspirants during election periods. According to him, these tactics are not only outdated but insulting to the intelligence of the electorate.
