The Ijaw Youth Council in Abuja has issued a two-day ultimatum to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, to unconditionally release the state’s gubernatorial aspirants, Farah Dagogo from police custody.

The Governor had issued an arrest order on the Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency lawmaker over allegedly disruption of the PDP’s House of Assembly screening exercise a day earlier.

The lawmaker was charged before a Magistrate court on charges bothering on cultism just a day after.

Speaking during the protest, the youth leader described Dagogo’s arrest as illegal, and called for his unconditional release.

A statement issued from the protest reads;

“The Ijaw Youth Council Chairman, Ogomugo Marbo , and other faithful Ijaw Youths resident in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, took the streets of Abuja to demand the unconditional relaese of her brother, father and son, Farah Dagogo, from Nigerian Police custody in Rivers State.

“While tendering a press statement in the Police Headquarters in Abuja to petition the freedom of her Ijaw son, Dagogo, who is been illegally arrested in River state, the pressure group pleaded with the appropriate authorities to call Governor Wike to order, ensure the release of the law maker representating Bonny/Degema federal constituency in River state and desist henceforth from oppressing Ijaws in general

“We have for the past few years watched closely the terror orchestrated on the Ijaws in River state by the state governor, Chief Nyosome Wike and his cohort and it is becoming unbearable, undemocratic and against democratic norm.”

Marbo concluded by giving the Rivers State Government a two-day ultimatum to ensure the release of the Farah Dagogo.
