The Ogbe-Ijoh chapter of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to provide protection for Ijaws in Udu Local Government Area.
In a statement by its Chairman, Amb. Victor Akemotubo and Secretary, Comr Francis Etimadimene on Thursday, the IYC alleged that there were plans to abduct and eliminate Ijaws in Udu as an offshoot of the communal crisis between Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communities.
The statement addressed to Governor Oborevwori also copied Governor Douye Diri and Simi Fubara of Rivers states, as well as the Army Headquarters, DSS, Inspector General of Police and the Delta State Police Commissioner.

“Ijaws Dwelling on UDU LAND Are Under Threat as a Result of Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh Communal Bloody Crisis: Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Clan call for Protection of Ijaws living in Urhobo land.
“Arising from Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom stakeholders and leadership meeting of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) we hereby write to intimate the general public most especially the leadership of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, Ijaw Ethnic nationality and all Security agencies that the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU), UDU Urhobo Communities and Aladja community, have held their clandestine meetings in Udu as they plan to kidnap and eliminate Ijaws living in Udu Local Government and other Urhobo Communities across the Delta Central, Delta South and Ogbe-Ijoh leaders who are living across Udu and it’s environs, which will be unacceptable because there is no ethnic crisis in Delta State.
“From information in our disposal, the purported palliatives Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) are calling for all sons of Urhobo extraction in diaspora and within the country is a ploy to supply arms and ammunition to carry out a genocide against the Ogbe-Ijoh people and the Ijaws dwelling within UDU and its environs from intelligent gathering.
“As of today, verified information has it that Urhobo militias from Aladja made attempts to attack Ogbe-Ijoh and they were repelled by security men on duty. Aladja had never been a war ravaged community, as such what becomes the significance of the palliatives in pretence; if not for the purchase of arms and ammunition from security report.
“Undeniably, we are aware His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oboriwvori is an Okpe man even before our people collectively voted for you in the primary and gubernatorial elections to become the number one citizen of the state; despite the lingering crisis between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities.
“Your victory in the last gubernatorial elections is victory for all Deltans, not for the Urhobos as the UPU is masquerading to shelter them in inflicting mayhem to the defenseless Ogbe-Ijoh people with their palliatives.
“Also, we want all security agencies and Ijaw Nation to know that, the Urhobo Progressive Union UPU has perfected plans to assassinate the following leaders of our dear kingdom Ogbe-Ijoh, His Royal Majesty, Couple Markson Oromoni, Chief Johnny Aribogha, Chief Favour Izoukumor, Chief Frank Omare, Chief Boro Opudu, Amb. Victor Akemotubo, Amb. Smart Okosu and others. Should Incase anything happens to this names mentioned above, the security agencies and Ijaw Nation should hold the UPU leadership and Aladja community leaders responsible.
“In view of the above, it has become imperative with the security sensitive information to call all son’s and daughter’s of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom living in all Urhobo land to be watchful and be vigilant not to be maimed under any guises arising from the communal crisis.”
