Argentina captain Lionel Messi has missed out on the 2024 Copa America Player of the Tournament award, which went to Colombia’s James Rodriguez.

Although Messi and his team secured their second consecutive Copa America title with a 1-0 victory over Colombia, it was Rodriguez who was named the tournament’s best player.

Rodriguez set a Copa America record with six assists and also scored a goal. His performance marked a strong comeback after he missed the 2021 Copa America due to poor form at the club level and Colombia’s failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
