Flamengo has snapped up Italian international Jorginho on a three-year contract just days before the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kicks off in the United States.

Moreover, the 33-year-old, who was born in Brazil, is finally heading back home after seven seasons tearing it up in the English Premier League, most recently anchoring Arsenal’s midfield.

Flamengo will now line up against Los Angeles FC (USA), Esperance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia) and Chelsea FC (England) in Group D.

Furthermore, Jorginho’s arrival injects fresh energy into the squad just as the expanded 32-team tournament gets underway.

Rio’s supporters are therefore eager to watch him against his old Champions League adversaries.

Jorginho moved to Chelsea in 2018 after shining at Napoli, and he won the UEFA Champions League in 2021 right away.

He then moved to Arsenal, where he led their midfield with an unrelenting work ethic until this summer’s contract expiration.

On the international front, he has already earned 57 caps for Italy since 2016 and was instrumental in winning the Euro 2020 championship.

Finally, Flamengo not only boosts its profile but also strengthens its team with big-game savvy by bringing in a proven winner just before a global matchup.

Fans and pundits alike now expect that Jorginho’s leadership and experience will help propel the club toward Club World Cup success.
